Concrete Buyer’s Guide

If you're managing a construction project, your to-do list is likely expanding by the day. Among the most critical decisions you'll make is selecting the right type of concrete; something that can directly impact the success of many other tasks on site. This guide will walk you through the essentials of ready-mixed concrete and what to consider before placing your order with Procon Readymix.

Define Your Requirements

Concrete isn’t one-size-fits-all. Ready-mixed concrete arrives pre-prepared and ready to pour, so it’s vital to specify your needs upfront. Consider:

Application – Is it for foundations, flooring, driveways, or structural elements?

Additives – Do you require decorative aggregates, colour pigments, fibre reinforcement, or chemical admixtures such as accelerators or corrosion inhibitors?

Finish – Will the surface be exposed, polished, or textured?

Providing these details to Procon Readymix in advance ensures we deliver a mix tailored to your project.

Ordering Accurately

To avoid delays or waste, it’s important to get your order right:

Volume – Concrete is supplied by the cubic metre. For regular shapes, calculate volume using length × width × depth. For irregular areas, break them into simpler shapes or use our online concrete calculator.

Moisture Content – A wetter mix is easier to spread but may compromise strength. It’s generally better to start with a drier mix and adjust on site if needed.

Allow for Excess – Always order 5–10% more than calculated to account for spillage, over-excavation, or uneven surfaces.

Density Requirements – Heavier loads require denser concrete. Let us know the intended use so we can advise on the appropriate mix.

Additional Considerations

Delivery & Waiting Time – Unloading takes time. Each cubic metre typically requires around five minutes. Ensure your team is ready to receive the delivery promptly to avoid additional waiting charges.

Curing Window – Ready-mixed concrete typically begins curing within 90 minutes of batching. In warmer conditions, this window may be shorter. Plan your pour accordingly to avoid waste.
